PORTABLE SMART CARD SYSTEM
PORTABLE SMART CARD SYSTEM
Pilotes du Saint-Laurent Central inc. (the
“Corporation”) and the Laurentian Pilotage
Authority (the “Authority”) are proud to announce
the Corporation’s successful integration of a new smart
card system used by maritime pilots during their missions on
the St. Lawrence, between Montréal and Québec.
It is the result of a fruitful parternship between the
Corporation and the Authority, which translates into a
four-year agreement enabling the Corporation, with the
Authority’s considerable financial support, to acquire
next-generation portable units.
This new system paves the way for the increased use of the
latest technologies in the maritime sector. These smart cards
will help maintain navigational security on the St. Lawrence,
while ensuring the delivery of efficient, quality pilotage
services.
Since 2007, all maritime pilots operating between
Québec and Montréal have used a standardized
portable smart card system during their missions. The
integration of such a system has improved wintertime traffic
flow between Québec and Montréal by over 48%,
without compromising navigational security.
