Becoming a Pilot

To acquire the knowledge and expertise required to qualify as a pilot, candidates must hold a navigation officer certificate and must have completed ten years of maritime experience, many of them as a ship's captain or senior officer. When applicants fulfill all the conditions to become apprentice pilots, they I have to fallow a minimum period of 2 years as apprentice pilots. Once qualified, the pilot will be a navigation expert for a given sector of the St. Lawrence River. The Laurentian Pilotage Authority is constantly looking for qualified applicants to become pilots.
